Have you ever went to the airport to pick up a loved one only to find out when you arrive that the flight is delayed? Or even worse when they arrive early and there is no one there to pick them up? Then there’s the pain of having to check over and over again all day on the airport website to see if it has been delayed. There has to be a better way!
Well there is and its called FlightStats.com! My Fiancée is flying in tonight on a red-eye flight and there is bad weather… a good mix for flight dealys. To prepare myself I signed up for a free account and only had to provide the airline name and the flight number (*note: take out the prefix for the airline on the flight number. ex AC123 is actually flight number 123 on Air Canada).
FlightStats.com doesn’t stop at arrival updates though, it can also keep track of flight departures! and for those who do not have access to e-mail on the go, you can also have the service text your phone when there are updates. All in all a great service if you ask me!

I was driving down Kenmount road today and caught a snap of Manna Bakery’s new sign. Newfoundland is sure moving up in the world! First there was online pizza orders from domino’s now bread!
After a quick overview of their site ( http://manna.nf.ca) I noticed not only can you order but you can get delivery! Its quite tempting to order a Loaf of bread and have it delivered, even if (with delivery charges) it would cost $15. I’m thinking Gag gifts!

oday was a day of the unexpected. I started having to go back to CBS and remove a faulty RAM chip that I had installed the day before. While there I had a fine little chat with a 9 year old aspiring programmer! He puts me in mind of myself at his age. He has already programed a web browser in VB (My first VB project as well). But get this, there is a VB developer’s network Kids Corner! Like WTF! Where was that when I was a kid. These kids have so much more than when I was his age. Apparently he learned much of his programing through youtube. Who makes youtube videos about programing VB… Like come on! that’s what school is for! Nuts!
So to continue on my exciting day I had to go to Clarenville and find out why a new software package wasn’t working. On the way I see a car crashed over the bank of the road. so I pull over and walk over to the car and it looks like there is no one there. I never went over the bank, but It kind of looked like there had been an accident and the car had been left there to be towed (happens some time on the TCH). The really shitty part was on the way home back from Clarenville. At the same spot where the car was there was now an ambulance, and another one on the way. I couldn’t see the car from the east bound lane, so I don’t know if it was the same car or if there was another accident. I sure hope there wasn’t someone in the car… That would suck!!!
Next time I will be going down to a car over the bank to make damn sure there is no one in it.
Oh, I also took a snap of some neat graffiti on one of the many rock cuts on the TCH. (seen above)

A few posts back I mentioned about migrating my blog over to a new server, well I just finished doing so! I used to host it on an old server 2003 VM that I migrated from hardware to VMware using VMware Converter. The conversion never really worked right and I always seemed to have problems with forwarding ports to it. I recently retired my linux based file server in favor of Windows Home Server. In the process I thought it would be a good idea to move my blog to a physical computer. So far the results are promising.
Sorry for all the Tech babble. I try to keep this blog separate from my tech blog, but I figured I would keep you all updated.

So the last few days have been pretty busy. I have been out of the office lately traveling a lot. I always said that traveling was the best part of my job because I could take the time to finish a job when away from the hectic’s that come with being tethered to a phone at your desk. That being said, its good to be back. Its damn good for getting your blood going getting back into a high paced high pressure environment.
I have also started watching all of Top Gear (a British car review show) and I have really gotten into it. If you haven’t heard of it, its about a bunch of blokes who sit around and chat about cars, test drive them and do crazy ass challenges such as race a Bugatti Veyron against a plane, or a bashing round of car darts!. I seriously recommend it, top notch entertainment.
While on the entertainment front, I recently saw the new Fast and the Furious Movie, which was pretty decent. Really kept it with the theme of Top Gear. Seems to have been a car week for me!
Well i’m off for another night, here’s hoping all the glue and Popsicle sticks hold up and keep my server running!

Out for a bit of a boys night last night with Ricky. Started with a Staples run and a jaunt to EB Games. Had a BBQ then for supper and decided to go to Dooleys for a few games of pool. I havn’t played pool in about 2 years, so needless to say I was a tad rusty. Ricky on the other hand has been playing in a pool league and ran the table most of the night.
We ran into our buddy Sean as well. Hes the owner of a local IT store BoomIT. We got to talking and a challenge was issued! We now have a standing invitation to drop him a line to play a few team matches. Guess I’m going to have to start working on my game a bit more!
On a lighter note, Its my Bride to be’s birthday today! Ironicly xkcd put out a birthday comic as well today. Happy Birthday hunnie!

Watched a Aids movie / documentary last night called “And the Band Played On” on HBO. It was weird, I was about to do some laundry and I sstarted watching it and couldnt stop watching it. It was a really interesting and eye opening movie. It seemed like it was going to be a slow movie but it kept me riveted! Weird. I say check it out

So, ever get a 3am drunk call from a buddy? I got one this morning, but luckily it was from a couple of my Friends in Vancouver. Thank god for time zones, his 3AM call to me as he walked to the beach was a 8am call to me as I got into work! I think I can handle those calls
